You can also filter chlorine from your bath. It is especially helpful to remove chlorine from children’s bath, as they are more susceptible to the effects of chlorine.

A water softener is an appliance designed to remove minerals from water by means of an ion-exchange process. As water flows through a bed of sodium-impregnated resin beads, mineral ions are drawn from the water to the beads. The sodium ions are added to the water. The water softener unit recharges the beads with brine or a potassium chloride solution. Some water softeners have separate tanks for the sodium resin and the brine while others have the resin tank inside the brine tank.

Full-home water softener typically are installed right where the main water line enters the house. For economy, some systems bypass faucets and fixtures that don’t need soft water, such as toilets and exterior water systems. Depending on what system you have and who owns it (you or a leasing company), your water softening system may be maintained by a service company. All you need to do to get soft water is turn on the tap-and pay the bill.

Stainless steel water Filters

I have noticed the Asian stainless steel systems are being offered again, I can’t caution you enough about how bad these systems are.Just about all the water filter suppliers have had a go at these systems over the years because they look great and the idea of a stainless steel system is appealing to say the least but they are a nightmare. We purchased some about 4 years ago and regret it as we re-called all of them and replaced with our premium plastic range. They were extremely difficult to replace a cartridge in and precision seems to be something the manufacturers are yet to master as the cartridges within would on some fail to seal, they were prone to blowing their O rings and leaking. I had a customer contact me this week with one of these systems that had a pin hole in the housing because it rusted through, yes rusted through, because they are such a low quality stainless steel it shouldn’t be called stainless steel because they rust, we didn’t supply this system to this person but as all before him he replaced it with a quality plastic system. We still have these housings in stock and I will dispose of them which is a shame, I have thought about giving them away for free to a customer but even if supplied for free we are still liable for the damage from flooding that they can cause.  Buy from us or don’t buy from us but what ever you do don’t buy an Asian stainless steel system.

1. Fluoridation -in many areas fluoride is added to water for the purpose of preventing tooth decay. This process is referred to as water fluoridation. Fluoride is usually added after the disinfection process. In the United States, fluoridation is usually accomplished by the addition of hexafluorosilicic acid, which decomposes in water, yielding fluoride ions.

2. Water conditioning: This is a method of reducing the effects of hard water. Hardness salts are deposited in water systems subject to heating because the decomposition of bicarbonate ions creates carbonate ions which crystalise out of the saturated solution of calcium or magnesium carbonate. Water with high concentrations of hardness salts can be treated with soda ash (sodium carbonate) which precipitates out the excess salts, through the Common-ion effect, producing calcium carbonate of very high purity. The precipitated calcium carbonate is traditionally sold to the manufacturers of toothpaste. Several other methods of industrial and residential water treatment are claimed (without general scientific acceptance) to include the use of magnetic or/and electrical fields reducing the effects of hard water.[

3. Plumbosolvency reduction: In areas with naturally acidic waters of low conductivity (i.e surface rainfall in upland mountains of igneous rocks), the water may be capable of dissolving lead from any lead pipes that it is carried in. The addition of small quantities of phosphate ion and increasing the pH slightly both assist in greatly reducing plumbo-solvency by creating insoluble lead salts on the inner surfaces of the pipes.

4. Radium Removal: Some groundwater sources contain radium, a radioactive chemical element. Typical sources include many groundwater sources north of the Illinois River in Illinois. Radium can be removed by ion exchange, or by water conditioning. The back flush or sludge that is produced is, however, a low-level radioactive waste.

5. Fluoride Removal: Although fluoride is added to water in many areas, some areas of the world have excessive levels of natural fluoride in the source water. Excessive levels can be toxic or cause undesirable cosmetic effects such as staining of teeth. One method of reducing fluoride levels is through treatment with activated alumina.
